Fine Art Photography Print

This photograph was made in Jinja, Uganda's fourth largest city and home to the source of the River Nile (the world's longest river). It is a close-up on a towering bougainvillea plant, known for its vibrant, paper-like bracts. In this frame, soft purples rise and spill outward, filling the image with colour and calm.

Jinja holds particular meaning for me. I was in the city, for the first time, to attend and cover my first Nyege Nyege festival, held about forty minutes away, and Jinja served as my base throughout the visit.

For a street photographer often immersed in crowds, movement, and urgency, this photograph marked a different kind of attention, a reminder that following one’s path does not always mean chasing movement. Sometimes it means pausing, noticing, and allowing interest to guide you.

This image is intentionally against the grain of what many will see as my forte in street photography. And that is the point. It reflects the peace that comes from alignment in trusting curiosity even when it leads away from popular expectation.

Printed as part of On the Road, Still Learning, this photograph stands as a quiet affirmation of ease, presence, and choosing what genuinely draws you in.
